Remembering Professor Rajnoha

The end of the holiday season doesn’t have to be all about holidays and summer fun. This summer will forever be linked to an extremely sad event that has affected all of us at the faculty. It is with sadness and regret that we have to announce that our esteemed colleague, friend, and comrade Professor Rastislav Rajnoha left us forever on Sunday, August 28.

Although he was “at home” mainly at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Information Systems, we knew him practically all, across the faculty, regardless of the institute or department. He worked with us, he traveled with us, this time last year he enjoyed a teambuilding trip to the Pustevny Mountains with us, and we all enjoyed meeting him on and off faculty.

For all the memories, thoughts and snippets from all these meetings and collaborations, we attach here with a painful but also smiling face the one from our colleague, the Director of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Computer Systems, Ing. Eva Juřičková, Ph.D. We think that it perfectly describes what kind of personality our “Rasta” was and how much we will miss him. ?

“Professor Rajnoha always kind of teased us with his articles that he published, which he could talk about for hours. He would describe what the article was about, which publishing house it would be published in, what journal it would be published in, how much impact factor the journal had, what its rating was. It was obvious that he found his work fulfilling and enjoyable, and that he was trying to motivate all of us to do better. We sat over coffee and discussed how to improve the article to make it publishable, and the professor gave us advice on how to do it. But in this way he was helping not only us, but also all his students. He was friendly and chummy with everyone, no matter what. He will be missed not only as a colleague but especially as a person.”
