The HR Award from a Practical Perspective: The FaME Institutional Council Offered Suggestions for Improving Human Resources Management

On May 29, 2026, the HR Excellence in Research Award initiative was presented to members of the Institutional Council of the Faculty of Management and Economics at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The meeting provided an opportunity not only for industry representatives to familiarise themselves with the faculty’s current practices but also to discuss how the principles of quality human resources management can be applied to the university environment.

In the section dedicated to the topic “The HR Award Through the Lens of Practice”, members of the Institutional Council shared their experiences in recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and organisational culture. The discussion revealed that an organisation attractive to high-quality talent relies not only on formal benefits but also on clear communication, good relationships, transparent rules, a collaborative atmosphere, opportunities for growth, and trustworthy leadership.

Practitioners also highlighted the importance of a well-thought-out onboarding process, regular feedback after joining, working with students as future employees, supporting mentoring, sharing experiences across teams, and systematic people development. Regarding organisational culture, the need was emphasised to address values and rules in a concrete, understandable manner using examples from daily practice.

One of the strongest themes of the discussion was communication—open, regular, clear, and flowing in all directions. It was precisely this that was seen as a key prerequisite for ensuring that the principles of the HR Award do not remain merely a formal commitment but become a real part of the faculty’s operations.

The feedback received will supplement existing internal analyses and be used to further develop activities related to the HR Award at FaME.
