Bachelor’s and Master’s Thesis Topics

The list of thesis topics (Bachelor’s/Master’s) for the upcoming academic year of defense is published in the IS/STAG system on March 30, with the registration period for students being open from April 1 to May 31. By registering for a topic in IS/STAG, a student expresses interest in the respective topic. Official confirmation of the topic occurs only when the student is bindingly assigned to it by the supervisor within the IS/STAG system. This is typically preceded by a student-initiated consultation with the relevant academic staff member (in person or electronically). Therefore, after the topic registering in IS/STAG, students are advised to immediately contact the respective academic staff member via email or in person to arrange a consultation and final assignment to the topic. If a student wishes to propose their own topic, this intention must be discussed sufficiently in advance with the potential supervisor so that, upon mutual agreement, the supervisor can list the topic in IS/STAG and register the student.

The topic must be selected and registered no later than May 31.

An external professional from a company or institution where the thesis will be conducted may also be chosen as a Bachelor’s thesis supervisor. However, they must hold at least a Master’s degree (as per the UTB Internal Regulation – Rules for the Creation, Approval, Implementation, and Modification of UTB Study Programmes) and must not be a “close person” to the student according to Act No. 89/2012 Coll., Civil Code, Section 22, Paragraph 1.

An external professional from a company or institution where the thesis will be conducted may also be chosen as a Master’s thesis supervisor. However, they must hold at least a Ph.D. or CSc. degree (as per the UTB Internal Regulation – Rules for the Creation, Approval, Implementation, and Modification of UTB Study Programmes) and must not be a “close person” to the student according to Act No. 89/2012 Coll., Civil Code, Section 22, Paragraph 1.

Collaboration between Students and Organizations on Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses

The Faculty of Management and Economics at TBU in Zlín has a long-standing commitment to developing cooperation with the application sphere. Partner organizations have expressed interest in collaborating with students on Bachelor’s (BP) and Master’s (DP) theses within specific fields of study.

This offer is primarily intended for students who have not found their own organization to work with on their final thesis. In the overview table below, students can filter organizations by their field of study and easily identify which companies are interested in collaborating in their respective areas.

How the Collaboration Works

The collaboration with organizations proceeds through the following steps:

  1. Selection of a Thesis Supervisor at FaME
The student first chooses a thesis supervisor from FaME.
  2. Preliminary Agreement on the Topic
The student clarifies the focus of the thesis with the supervisor (choosing one of their listed topics and confirming the supervisor’s agreement to lead the work). It is also possible to agree on a general focus, with the specific topic to be finalized after consultation with the chosen organization.
  3. Contacting the Collaboration Coordinator Subsequently, the student contacts Dr. Tomancová (tomancova@utb.cz) via email, stating:
    • the supervisor’s name,
    • their field of study,
    • the preliminary topic agreed upon with the supervisor,
    • the preferred organization (only one selected; if collaboration is not established, the student may request contact for another firm).
  4. Mediation of Contact with the Organization
Dr. Tomancová will provide the student with a contact at the organization interested in the given field (provided they still have available capacity).
  5. Contacting the Organization and Refining the Topic
The student contacts the responsible person at the organization, introduces themselves, expresses interest in the collaboration, and agrees on the specific topic to be addressed.
  6. Confirmation of (Non-)Establishment of Collaboration
After contacting the firm, the student informs Dr. Tomancová via email whether:
    • an agreement on collaboration was reached, or
    • collaboration was not established.
This information is crucial for keeping records of each company’s remaining capacity.

Important Notice

  • Each organization has a limited capacity for supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
  • Therefore, it is essential to follow the stated procedure and not to contact organizations directly without prior notification of Dr. Tomancová.
  • When contacting companies, please maintain professional communication standards. The organization is not obliged to establish a collaboration, and students should represent the faculty with professionalism during all negotiations.
