Living Library: International students offered their stories
17. April 2025Zlín, 8 April 2025.
On Tuesday, 8 April, the Student Club U7 in the centre of Zlín came alive with a unique event – the Living Library project, prepared by international and Erasmus students of Tomas Bata University. This unconventional format of cultural exchange allowed visitors to engage in personal conversations with young people from different parts of the world who are currently studying and living in Zlín.
The concept of a “living library” is based on the idea that instead of traditional books, visitors “borrow” a person. In this case, the living books were students from more than ten countries who offered their life stories, experiences with international studies, insights into cultural differences and personal inspirations. The aim was to create a safe space for open dialogue, mutual understanding and sharing, without prejudice or barriers.
The meeting attracted more than thirty participants and brought much more than just interesting information – new friendships were formed, stimulating questions were raised, and unexpected topics were opened up. The event was a reminder that authentic conversations and listening to others’ perspectives are key to understanding and personal growth.
The Living Library project is an example of sustainable international cooperation in practice – it promotes respect for diverse cultures, intercultural competence and the inclusion of international students in the life of the university and the city.
