FaME is blooming: more greenery for a more pleasant environment

The corridors of the Faculty of Management and Economics at TBU in Zlín have been brought to life with new greenery, and blue hydrangeas have been planted in front of the building. Thanks to the ‘Small Projects for Big Things’ initiative, it has been possible to beautify the communal areas and help create a more pleasant environment for students, staff and visitors to the faculty.

One of the projects carried out involved restoring and replenishing greenery in the faculty’s communal areas. The indoor plants here had long been neglected, so the first step was to assess their condition and remove those that could no longer be saved. The remaining plants were repotted, fitted with the necessary supports and given fresh potting compost. At the same time, additional indoor plants were purchased, which now brighten up the faculty corridors. Furthermore, standardising the plant pots in shades of white and grey has helped create a harmonious, visually cohesive space.

However, greenery is not merely a matter of aesthetics. The presence of plants indoors can positively influence the perception of the environment, promote mental wellbeing and contribute to a more pleasant atmosphere for both study and work. The aim of the project was therefore not only to beautify the corridors but also to create a space where students and staff will feel at ease.

The outdoor area in front of the faculty has also undergone a transformation, with four large-leaved hydrangeas planted there. Their blue flowers reflect the faculty’s colour and, when in bloom, will welcome students, staff and visitors to the building. The new planting thus links the aesthetic enhancement of the public space with the faculty’s visual identity.

This initiative demonstrates that even relatively minor changes can contribute to the quality of everyday life at the faculty. The Small Projects for Big Things initiative is thus helping to gradually create an environment that is not only functional but also pleasant and welcoming to the people who spend their time there.
